Drama Club members battled on with our reprise of ‘Love in the Wild, Wild, West’ during the Jubilee Celebrations whilst several of us held down the backdrop to stop it blowing away. This was well received by the rather damp spectators but as the weather closed in we did not manage to do it twice, so apologies to those
who missed it.
Our AGM took place at the end of June and saw several changes in our Committee. Andrew Sheard retired after 11 years service, seven as Chairman; he was presented with a large engraved goblet to save tiresome refilling. We hope he will now have more time to tread the boards. Paul Woods has taken over as Chairman, Julie McCarthy as Vice Chairman and Anne Isherwood has joined the Committee. The Graham Ouseley Award for outstanding contribution to the Club by a member under the age of 25 was made to Michael McCarthy for his wonderful performance in last year’s Gaddesden Varieties.
Auditions for ‘Snow White,’ our winter production, will take place on 9th September. This will be a traditional pantomime story with a modern twist (Snow White’s traditional seven helpers will take on a variety of guises). There will be many named parts as well as chorus roles for anyone aged 8 to 80. Rehearsals will take place on Sunday afternoons and early evenings. The show will be performed on the last two weekends of January 2012.
Members of the Drama Club will be providing onstage entertainment at the British Legion’s popular ENSA Evenings in November, so the search is on for suitable material.
