Last Call! Sunday 29th May, 3:00pm – Little Gaddesden Drama Club Auditions in the Village Hall

‘Waiting for God’ – a Comedy by Michael Aitkens

Little Gaddesden Drama Club is delighted to announce that it is restarting productions after the pandemic. Our next production will be Michael Aitkens’ crackling comedy Waiting for God, to be staged in October this year.  Definitely not to be confused with Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, it is a sharply funny play.

Auditions are on Sunday 29 May at 3:00pm in Little Gaddesden Village Hall – note change of date from that given in The Gaddesden Diary. Existing and new members welcome. If you would like to be considered for a part, it would be helpful if you could please email the Director, Patrick Isherwood, in advance at waitingforgod@lgdramaclub.com.

Move to New Web Host Completed

Last weekend we completed the move of The Gaddesden Society‘s website to a different web hosting company. Our new host, which is already home to several Little Gaddesden websites, is a distinct improvement on the old one. Partly this is because the server on which the website is now hosted is located in Europe’s largest data centre, which is between Newport and Cardiff in South Wales – a lot closer to home than the previous one in North America.

In any event, we hope you will find that our pages load up more quickly and that moving around the site is a zippier experience than it used to be. Behind the scenes here at GadSoc Digital Towers we’re enjoying the easier editing and maintenance, and the enhanced email capabilities. And on the subject of email, we are now able to offer multiple email addresses on the @littlegaddesden.org.uk domain to clubs and societies that don’t have their own email facilities. So a club might like to have separate @littlegaddesden.org.uk addresses for its officers, much as we do at The Gaddesden Society (see our More About the Society page). Feel free to enquire.

This move completes the recent major overhaul of our website and digital infrastructure. If you have any questions about the changes, or want to know more about email addresses, please contact Andrew Sheard at wp-admin@littlegaddesden.org.uk.

Move to New Webhost Imminent

If you’ve noticed any outage periods when our website has been unavailable over the last week or so, they haven’t been because of our planned move away from our current webhost. Rather, they’re part of the reason we’re moving! In the first ten days of May we endured seven outages, which we consider unacceptable.

The first stage of the move is due to take place over the next few days, which we hope will be without noticeable (further) interruption. But our apologies in advance if that’s not the case. And if an email bounces back from any of our new @littlegaddesden.org.uk email addresses, please try again a little later. In case of continuing difficulty, as a temporary measure please forward your email to gadsoc.temp@andrew-sheard.com and we’ll help deliver it to the intended recipient.

Village Notices for 27 April 2022

Wednesday 27th April – VPA AGM and talk – 7pm in the Thomas Field Hall, Little Gaddesden Church, Church Road

We will start with nibbles and a glass of wine or soft drink before the main business, and a top up, or coffee, before our speakers for the evening: Julia Bolton, who is heavily involved in the “Horatio’s Garden” at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and is passionate about the charity, and Amy Moffett, who was appointed head gardener at Horatio’s Garden Stoke Mandeville in January 2021. “Horatio’s Gardens” are being installed in all major spinal units throughout the country and they are hugely influential in the recovery of some patients, as well as being helpful and supportive to relatives, giving them a peaceful place to be away from the ward. The original garden was created in Salisbury where Horatio Chapple was a volunteer until his sudden death aged only 17. This will be a very informative talk and we are delighted that Julia is available to come along.

The VPA AGM agenda and reports can be downloaded from the VPA’s website here.

Celebrating the Queen’s 70 year reign

Most people are aware of the fantastic fun packed celebrations the village is organising in June.  The main events will be held on the sports fields on the Sunday. Now here is the question.

There will be a very large marquee available for a village party on Saturday evening. It would seem a real shame not to use it. Who out there would be up for a party? Help would be needed to set up and clear up and probably the easiest option would be to get ‘street’ food sales option. Pay bar can be sorted.

Please message me if you think it would be a good idea, if you would come with friends and if you could help in any way.

Let’s throw off the covid blues and party.
