Friday 19 and Monday 22 April 2024 – Filming at Ashridge
The Parish Council has received via Ashridge House the following notice, dated 2 April 2024, from Dear Productions of 30 Berners Street, London,W1T 3LR:
FILMING NOTICE
Ashridge Estate – Friday 19th & Monday 22nd April 2024
Dear Resident / Business owner,
We are writing to you about some upcoming filming in the woods on the Ashridge Estate. Resident and Business owners’ feedback is essential for us to be able to film in your neighbourhood with as little inconvenience to you as possible, so please do get in touch if you have any queries or concerns.
Filming Schedule
Monday 15th, Tuesday 16th, Wednesday 17th & Thursday 18th April: Preparation between 07:00 – 18:00
(15th & 16th will be a smaller low-key crew)
Friday 19th April: Filming 07:00 – 19:00 > College Road closed (except for residents) / Smoke effects
Monday 22nd April: Filming 07:00 – 19:00 > Stop/Go Traffic Control on College Road / Smoke effects
Tuesday 23rd April: Reinstatement between 07:00 to 18:00
Traffic control
To facilitate filming safely, on Friday 19th April, College Road will be completely closed to all traffic except for residents. Alternate routes and diversions will be signposted, and traffic management operatives will be on hand to assist. We have also applied to install intermittent traffic control on College Road on Monday 22nd April. We will operate a Stop / Go system of traffic holds only while the camera is rolling. When we are not filming traffic will flow as normal. Whilst access to your homes and businesses will be maintained at all times, you might be asked to wait a few minutes while the camera is rolling. This will be kept to an absolute minimum.
Filming details
All the scenes we are filming on The Ashridge Estate will be completed in two days, with four days of preparation and one day of reinstatement, as outlined above. During our preparation, we will be laying various trackways and pads around the woods to protect the ground and enable our vehicles and crew to get around all the sets. All of this work will be approved by the Natural Trust, Natural England and Ashridge House. There will be some prep vehicles in and around the woods from Tuesday 16th, but the bulk of our shoot trucks will arrive on the evening of Thursday 18th April and depart after we finish filming on the evening of Monday 22nd April. There will also be a Unit Base on the North Lawn at Ashridge House. The scenes we are filming at The Ashridge Estate are essentially dialogue based, involve a handful of cast without large crowd numbers. We will have a crew of approximately 120 people. Please see attached map for more details.
Special Effects/Smoke Machines
There will be no pyrotechnics, gunfire or loud stunts, but to create the desired atmosphere, we will be using smoke and wind machines. These machines will be most prevalent on Monday 22nd April, when we will be filming in the woods, but smoke will also be used to a lesser extent on Friday 19th April, when we film on College Road. We will operate a brief test with our smoke machine in the afternoon on Thursday 18th April, and we felt it prudent to mention the use of smoke in this vicinity, because of course we cannot guarantee that the wind won’t blow the smoke beyond the confines of our set. On 19th April, we will also be wetting down the road for cinematic effect, and in any event we will always make sure the road is safe to use when open to the public.
Reassurances
We are working with a very experienced and considerate crew, and all our work will be with the permission and full support from The National Trust, Natural England and Ashridge House. As we continue to prepare for our filming, our consideration for residents is of the upmost importance and our aim is to ensure that our period of filming is a successful and stress-free one.
Contact details
Please get in touch with us if you need any further information or if you have any specific questions. If you are disturbed by vehicles, crew or anything else during the filming, or have deliveries scheduled for Friday 19th or Monday 22nd April, please call me or Jeremy and we will try to resolve the issue.

Wednesday 24 April – VPA 2024 AGM, Thomas Field Hall, 6.30pm
We are delighted to welcome Kate Stuart-Smith to our AGM this year, to give us a talk about the lovely garden at Serge Hill, Bedmond, Hertfordshire and the work of the National Garden Scheme. (NGS)

The AGM will be at the Thomas Field Hall next to Little Gaddesden Church. Doors open at 6.30pm and wine and cheese will be served, we plan a fairly short section on VPA matters and will then move on to Kate’s presentation, c. 30 mins and time for questions, after which tea and coffee will be available.
We look forward to seeing you. If you would like to find more information on Kate please click on the link below.

Little Gaddesden Art Club – New Website
Little Gaddesden Art Club is pleased to announce that its new website is up and running at LGArtClub.com (the caps are optional). Please have a look around. A few points to note:
- The current year’s programme, including the dates of the ever popular Summer Exhibition and autumnal One Day Sale, is available on the Programme page. A general guide to our two annual selling exhibitions is on the Exhibitions page.
- A highlight of the website is the Gallery page, which features images of art by current members. To give tasters of what’s available to view, there are thumbnails of the Gallery page images elsewhere on the website, too.
- We hope to have ironed out all the wrinkles and squashed all the bugs, but please report any typos, glitches, idiocies or other goofs to Andrew Sheard at treasurer@LGArtClub.com. And please let him know if you have any questions or suggestions about the site.
For membership enquiries, please contact the Membership Secretary Alison Greene at membership@LGArtClub.com.
Little Gaddesden Charities Fund
Established in 1997 (as a combination of a number of established local charities), the Little Gaddesden charities has supported individuals and families in Little Gaddesden Parish for 25 years.
The charities’ sole purpose is to help individuals or families resident in the parish with small one-off requests for financial support.
The committee are aware that local parishioners may or may not be aware of the charities and wish to promote the purpose to all residents.
Requests for support are made by either contacting The Revd John Russell on 01442 214898 or by emailing vicar@littlegaddesdenchurch.org.uk. John chairs the charities’ small committee of trustees based on his role within the Parish; alternatively Pat Catchpole (01442 842544) as secretariat.
In such a period of financial uncertainty and with the cost of living crisis it is even more important to ensure that members of the Parish are aware of the support availability, and we would welcome being able to provide more support from funds available.
All requests are treated with the utmost confidence and no personal information is shared.
We would also welcome any local organisations providing information of how to access the charity in any wider communications they may undertake.
